The project brief calls for the building to kinetically transform with each passage of a boat through the adjacent lock. Rotational motion governed by the geometry of a hyperboloid of revolution displaces stairs both in plan and section, fundamentally reorganizing the building's circulation and recurating its exhibits in a highly controlled way.

These studies explore geometric and parametric control as a generator of form. Acknowledging that factors of economy and efficiency frequently require construction to rely on flat-packed raw materials, some of these studies consider the ability of flat panels to translate into complex surfaces, while others take advantage of digital fabrication techniques such as 3D printing.
